Whickham Fellside Ladies are an open-age women’s football team based in Whickham and Gateshead, competing in the Durham FA Women’s Development Division.
The 2026/27 season marks the team’s second season in competitive women’s football and another important step in the continued development of the ladies section at Whickham Fellside Youth Football Club.

The increased strength and depth within the squad gives Whickham Fellside Ladies a strong platform to build on their first season and continue progressing within the Durham FA Women’s Development Division.
Women’s Football in Whickham and Gateshead
Whickham Fellside Ladies provides women and girls from Whickham, Gateshead and the surrounding North East area with the opportunity to play competitive open-age football in a friendly, welcoming and supportive environment.
While the team wants to compete and enjoy another successful season on the pitch, the long-term objective goes much further than league results.
A key aim of Whickham Fellside Youth Football Club is to establish a sustainable pathway from girls’ youth football into women’s open-age football.
As younger players progress through the club’s girls’ teams, Whickham Fellside Ladies provides an opportunity for them to continue playing football beyond youth level without having to leave the club they have developed with.
Creating that pathway is an important part of the club’s long-term commitment to growing girls’ and women’s football in Gateshead and the North East.
Whickham Fellside Ladies is not only about players progressing from youth football.
The team also welcomes women who have previously played football and would like to return to the game after some time away, as well as players looking for a new challenge or a new team.
Women who are interested in trying organised football for the first time are also encouraged to get involved.
The squad includes players with different levels of experience and ability, helping to create an environment where everyone can develop, improve their fitness, build confidence and enjoy being part of a football team.
That mixture of players is an important part of the identity of Whickham Fellside Ladies.
Building a Sustainable Women’s Football Pathway
Whickham Fellside Youth Football Club continues to invest in the development of girls’ and women’s football.
With girls progressing through the club’s junior age groups, the Ladies team provides an important final stage in the pathway from junior football into the adult game.
The ambition is to ensure that girls who grow up playing football for Whickham Fellside have a realistic opportunity to continue representing the club into adulthood.
At the same time, the team provides opportunities for women from the wider community who want to start playing, return to football or continue enjoying the game within a supportive club environment.
As Whickham Fellside Ladies enter their second season in the Durham FA Women’s Development Division, the focus remains on continuing to strengthen the squad, developing players and building a women’s football team that can grow sustainably for many years to come.
