WELCOME TO OUR CLUB WEBSITE. The WWW gives us the opportunity to communicate with people all over the World as if they were just next to us. I therefore hope that all our visitors, both from near and far, new and old, enjoy our Club Website and its content. We sincerely thank 'Whickham Clavering Rotary' and Orcuma Ltd., for sponsoring our Website.

Why not visit our Watergate Café for quality food and refreshments!

Whickham Fellside Youth Football Club (WFYFC) offer the young people of our area of Gateshead, in the North-East of England, the opportunity to be a member of our Club, to play football in a team environment and to become part of a well-run, well-structured, organised and disciplined group working with and for their fellow team mates. In September 2012 our Club were awarded the FA Charter Standard Community Club status, the highest award a Club of our size can achieve. We continue to hold this Charter Status.

We make football fun and our Coaches and Assistants are Football Association qualified to at least Level One and many to a higher standard, so we offer first-class coaching. All our volunteers are registered under Child Protection Legislation (DBS). WFYFC also offer specialist coaching for Goalkeepers through our qualified coach, Neil McMahon(please check the resources tab for more information). With the work done by our Club Football Development Officer and his Assistants, this adds up to a significant investment in good coaching. We use external and specialist Coaches and Agencies such as Football in the Community, the NUFC Foundation, Futsal, Coach The Coach, Goalkeeper Coaching and others to enhance the added-value of correct and structured age-related coaching. All of the time and effort and cost of these organisations is absorbed by our Club and organised by our Football Development Officers, Club Mentors and Club Officials - all for the benefit of our Members.

Child Protection issues are prominent in the media at present and parents can be assured that their child is respected and looked after whilst in our care. All our volunteers are DBS (CRB) checked and only qualified FA Coaches will take either Training Sessions or Matchday Games. We do not compromise on this and our Child Protection and Safeguarding Children Policies are available to view on this website together with the names and contact numbers of our Child Protection Officers, please note these.

Since our formation in 1980 by Jim Potts, Terry Gatenby and George Dent, we have grown very steadily indeed; in the season 2018-2019 we will have 26 teams representing Whickham Fellside Y.F.C. from ages of Under-6 to Under-18 and an Adults Team. The number of teams and age groups we run reflects our standing as one of the largest Youth Football Club in the area with our teams playing in local Youth Leagues (links through our website). The summer of 2012 saw Summer Football introduced to our Club and we will further build on this exciting new format in the forthcoming and future seasons. We will also continue to support 9v9 football which has been widely introduced by the F.A.; we are hopeful this enhances the future development of the game. Watergate is now established as a Host Venue for many events and is available for hire. The facilities we have on offer can be enjoyed by everyone in a variety of activities, see the Watergate Café Facebook page for more details.

The Club have invested heavily in equipment to maintain our grass playing surfaces and we will see a marked improvement in this area in the future. The further development of Watergate for our members and the community, including the Watergate Café, remains a firm commitment; we are determined to make the area a one for everyone to enjoy.

A completely voluntarily run and funded organisation, WFYFC Officials give up their personal time to work within our Club and with their Teams for the benefit of their players and the Club.  As a community group we have been fortunate to receive support from many businesses and individuals over the years and we are continually grateful to all those who have assisted us. The work we carry out is so important to the youth of our area and to our community. It is always ongoing and stretches our finances which continue to be raised purely through donations; subscriptions; grants and sponsorships. To all these groups and individuals who continue to support us we are forever grateful. A list of both Club and Team Partners is displayed within this website.

We aim to continue the development of our Club, playing our football at Watergate in the Lobley Hill area of Gateshead NE11 where we have a first class changing facility and pavilion. With the enthusiasm of our volunteers, members, parents, supporters and partners we are hopeful to develop the Club further in the future. We work closely with Gateshead Council who have a very pro-active and enthusiastic approach to Youth Football in our Borough of Gateshead, despite severe economic restrictions. Guidance by the Football Association and their Charter Standard demands are paramount to our continued development, structure and future.

Negotiations and discussions with Gateshead Council were concluded in December 2014 where we finalised a 35-Year Lease and Asset Transfer of the Watergate Building and Pitches. This means that we can develop the site, obtain Partnerships from others groups and organisations, and have the Club's future firmly in our hands. An extension has been added to the existing building; which incorporates the Watergate Cafe which can double up as a Meeting Room; Seminar Room; Course Venue etc., but is flexible enough to be adapted to almost any use. It is hoped that the local community will use it and that we can extend Club's services our Club can offer.

Gateshead Council in their Get Active Campaign together with Sharon Johnson who runs our Watergate Café, are running many activity, meeting, fun and fitness sessions at Watergate. These include Social Gatherings, Cycling, Beginners Running and Walking, amongst others. Individuals are encouraged to come along and participate as part of their health well-being and introduction to physical activity.

We embrace discipline and high standards within our Club and have had to deal with incidents of this nature in the past. We do so in a fair and unbiased manner but make it perfectly clear to all parties that we will not tolerate any such behaviour or incidents which put the reputation of our Club into question. Co-operation and conformity by everyone to the Policies we have regarding behaviour and conduct and conformity to the Football Association's Respect Campaign is expected. Remember this is a game; the officials are voluntary; the children are learning and respect for the individual and the team should be remembered at all times.

From all the information mentioned above it can be seen that the Club's future looks very bright indeed but it is emphasised that work and effort are always ongoing processes. Only by working with our Members, Parents, Visitors, Supporters, Local Authority, Governing Bodies, Leagues, Coaches, Volunteers, Partners, Officials and the Community can we obtain a better and brighter future for everyone! We hope you will work with us to achieve this!

Welcome to 'Our Club', Whickham Fellside Youth Football Club!

The Club celebrated its 30th ANNIVERSARY with a Dinner in May 2010. Individuals who had assisted the Club in the past, as well as a good representation of those still involved at present, attended. The Guest Speaker was CHRIS KAMARA and the entertainment was by JOSH DANIELS. At this Dinner the Mayor of Gateshead, Cllr. JOHN EAGLE, presented the Club with a new trophy, the DAVID WATSON MEMORIAL CUP, which will be in memory of Sapper DAVID WATSON (pictured above), a former player, who died aged 23 years on New Years Eve 2009, while in service in Afghanistan; this presentation was made to David's parents, MAL and ANN WATSON who in turn re-presented it to BILL BATY, our Club Chairman, for use within the Club.

The Cup will be awarded annually to someone who has made an outstanding contribution to our Club - a very fitting legacy to David's memory. Those who attended raised a magnificent £3,000 for the Help for Heroes Campaign, again in memory of David. Every Remembrance Day we lay a wreath at Whickham War Memorial in memory of David and those who made the supreme sacrifice.
